As we all know, Microsoft is going to end the sales of Windows XP on October 22. Yes! Only few days left and still Windows XP is having a strong market compared to any other operating system in the world now.

This time around Microsoft is looking serious about their statement and the XP lovers should have to rush towards the outlet and get their copy. Currently by the end of September we noticed that Windows XP is still holding more than 50% for market share worldwide(according tto statcounter).

Windows XP has been available for 9 years and 2 months. The only operating system which had a long journey. The OS was originally planned to be phased out in October of 2007, but saw considerable demand due to the slow adoption of Windows Vista and the emergence of netbooks, which were not powerful enough to run Windows Vista. Eventually, XP ended up with a 98% market share of netbooks in 2008.

Microsoft slowly started moving its loyal users to Windows 7, started developing non-supportable softwares like IE9 and Windows Live. But whatever the change is, Microsoft is going to stick to its words this time and October 22nd will be the D-day for Windows XP.

Ending Windows XP will surely be big blow for Microsoft. But it is trying for a smooth transition and said that it will be bringing back the Windows 7 Family Pack on October 22 which gets users three copies of the Windows 7 Home Premium for $150 – while supplies last.

All this news around making everyone feel that Windows XP is surely going to die on October 22nd. But Microsoft says that it will provide support until April 8, 2014, provided you run the latest service pack and keep the software up to date (as far as those updates are available.) Windows Vista support will end in April 2014 as well.

Well the time is nearing and all are getting ready to have an hands on Microsoft’s new Internet Explorer 9. The much spoken IE9 first beta is getting released in just few hours from now, 10:30 am PDT or 11 pm IST timings.

But the shocking news is, IE9 is already available for few companies and the response from them is making others more exciting. Pair of IE9 and Windows 7 is going to making ultimate change in browser war. We all are expecting lot of things from IE9 on one side and other side Windows XP users are kept away from IE9.

The news is, Fastcompany has already got IE9 in their Windows 7 machine and they expressed what they felt about it. Here are few things we got by seeing the screenshots from Fastcompany.

#1. Application to PC

First thing we got from IE9 screenshot is, converting website into application. We saw this feature already in Chrome 6, 7 and Firefox 4 beta‘s. But these application were not able to get pinned in taskbar. Microsoft has included this feature to be fully available on Windows 7 machines.
#2. HTML5

IE9 has boiled down with HTML5 features. Hope this time IE9 cross the score by Chrome 7 and tops the list. Many, including Apple believe HTML5 could one day replace Adobe Flash. But for Microsoft, it has become a vehicle for migrating apps to the PC.

#3. Chromified

Finally IE9 has got Chromified look, just similar to Firefox 4. So finally IE9 has got total remake and looks clear. Similar to Chrome and Firefox, IE9 got big browsing space.

#4. Firefox like Buttons

As u can see in screenshot, the back and forward buttons are resembling Firefox 4 buttons. Hope IE9 didn’t copy it

#5. Site-Centric, Not Browser-Centric

Last but not least, IE9 is Site-Centric, Not Browser-Centric.

According to Gavin,

Microsoft’s aim was to create a site-centric, not browser-centric, Internet Explorer that has revved-up HTML5 support. Frame rates are explosive–early comparison tests have showed big gains on Chrome and Firefox–and high-def video is handled beautifully, thanks to big tweaks to hardware acceleration.

Microsoft has delivered four developer previews of Internet Explorer (IE) 9 so far, but has yet to show off the new interface for its next-generation browser. That is expected to happen on September 15, during Microsoft’s beta launch event in San Francisco.

But maybe users won’t have to wait until then to get a glimpse of what is coming. Microsoft Russia’s press site, on August 25, posted information and a photo that seem to be connected to the coming IE 9 beta. (The site has since pulled their post). Microsoft had previously also leaked data of Windows 7 Build screenshots and version numbers!

Microsoft’s Russian website appears to have leaked the first true screenshot of IE9. While the company suggested so far that the interface will not be changed from IE8, it now seems that IE9 will get a dramatically different look and look and feel much more like Google’s Chrome.

ZDNet’s Mary-Jo Foley was able to grab a screenshot of the page before it was pulled shortly after that. Like its rivals, IE9 will have fewer buttons and show only the back and forward button to the left of the URL bar, as well as a search bar and a home, bookmark and reload button.

The Microsoft’s Russian site also leaked about the few main advantages of Internet Explorer 9.

1. HTML5

Internet Explorer 9 created with the expectation of support for modern language version of HTML5. In an effort to give developers the ability to use the Internet the same layout Microsoft has added many new features based on HTML5, CSS3, DOM L2 and L3, SVG, ECMAScript5, etc., which require hardware acceleration and up to standard.

2. Focusing on the web

New Navigation Bar Internet Explorer 9 simplifies perception sites.
Frame your browser is not overloaded with navigation elements, and compared with other browsers leave more space for the site.

5. Quick release tabs and Windows Aero Snap

As we all know Microsoft first introduced an operating environment named Windows in November 1985 as an add-on to MS-DOS in response to the growing interest in graphical user interfaces (GUI). And we know MS-DOS was totally working on commands.

Microsoft released many versions of windows after the MS-DOS operating system. But it never stopped supporting DOS features in any of these versions, as MS-DOS is the fastest way of performing tasks.

Well here are few commands a must know for windows user that we came across. These commands are simple and very useful.

1. gpupdate

The gpupdate command provided by Microsoft for MS-DOS is very helpful when you need to refresh your system and client policies. This command also is useful to reload pages that are having load issues.

SYNTAX : gpupdate  [/Target:{Computer | User}] [/Force] [/Wait:<value>] [/Logoff] [/Boot] [/Sync]

Steps to execute:

Step 1: Click start -> run -> type cmd (for vista users press Ctrl + r and type cmd)

Step 2 : Type the command along with one of the attributes .

E.g. Type gpupdate /force on your system command-prompt and see the result as below,

Tech tip: If you are using a official system, then you will get a prompt asking for asking log off (Y/N). Just type N and continue, this command is also useful for speeding the system a little if system condition is slow. I tried and it worked for me in my office

2. chkdsk

The chkdsk is a well known command for most of the users. Its useful to check the disk performance and status report e.g d:/ etc. This is the command that normally executes during boot whenever there is an improper shutdown; you might have seen a blue screen appearing checking for disk fragments and indexes during system boot.

SYNTAX : CHKDSK [volume[[path]filename]]] [/F] [/V] [/R] [/X] [/I] [/C] [/L[:size]]

Steps to execute:

Step 1: Click start -> run -> type cmd (for vista users press Ctrl + r and type cmd)

Step 2: Type the command along with one of the attributes.

E.g. Type chkdsk on your system command-prompt and see the result as below,

3. Tracert

Tracert command is helpful in trace routing the particular dns or ip. This command shows the list of ip’s that are accessing the particular domain and also the ip address of the domain.

SYNTAX: tracert [-d] [-h maximum_hops] [-j host-list] [-w timeout] target_name

Steps to execute:

Step 1: Click start -> run -> type cmd (for vista users press Ctrl + r and type cmd)

Step 2: Type the command along with one of the attributes.

E.g. Type tracert www.gmail.com on your system command-prompt and see the result as below,

Tech Tip: If you are accessing google.com or tech18 you can use traceert command to check the ip’s accessing and Dns response. A maximum of 30 hops will give you the detail description of the particular ip’s accessing the desired DNS. You can also see the domain ip address.

4. pathping

The pathping command is combination of traceroute command and ping command but only disadvantage is it takes more than two minutes to get the result. Result consists of the stats of packet loss along with the routes.

SYNTAX: pathping [-g host-list] [-h maximum_hops] [-i address] [-n] [-p period] [-q num_queries] [-w timeout] [-P] [-R] [-T] [-4] [-6] target_name

Steps to execute:

Step 1: Click start -> run -> type cmd (for vista users press Ctrl + r and type cmd)

Step 2: Type the command along with one of the attributes.

E.g: Type pathping -h 20 www.google.co.in and see the result as below,

5. robocopy

Robocopy also known as “Robust File Copy”, which is a commadn-line directory replication command which is used to copy huge files which is not possible with windows xcopy command. Robocopy has many advantages like tolerate network interruptions, copy huge files, support multithread copying etc.

SYNTAX: robocopy <Source> <Destination> [<File>[ ...]] [<Options>]

Steps to execute:

Step 1: Click start -> run -> type cmd (for vista users press Ctrl + r and type cmd)

Step 2: Type the command along with the desired source and destination.

The robocopy command only works on Windows NT, windows vista, windows 7 and windows server 2008. Robocopy command is not available on windows xp.  To copy in windows xp you can use Xcopy command.

Tech Tip: Multi threading concept in Robocopy is supported only in windows 7.

Ok then let me tell you more about IE9. We all Bloggers are mostly amazed by the Windows7 and most of them have switched from Windows XP to Windows7 and also from  Windows Vista to Windows7 as it had many problems.

When we tried IE9 preview and demos, It looked perfect and we totally went crazy about the features of IE9. But when we tried on Windows XP we just got to know Microsoft killed Windows XP with its IE9! A dialog box popped out stating

Windows Internet Explorer Platform Preview does not support any operating system earlier than Windows Vista SP2

What do you have to say about it? Microsoft clearly says no to nearly decade old operating system Windows XP! Now let us put in front the main reasons behind why IE9 doesn’t work in Windows XP. These are the 5 main reasons we found why IE9 doesn’t support Windows XP:

1. DirectX

IE9 uses the Direct2D feature of DirectX when accessing the graphics hardware to accelerate image creation and drawing. Direct2D was introduced in Windows 7, but then added to Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 R2. But not to Windows XP.

2. Security

Windows XP users have a fast, safe, reliable and private browser in Internet Explorer 8 that IE9 doesn’t provide for XP.

3. Graphics

Internet Explorer 9 requires the modern graphics and security underpinnings that have come since 2001, which XP doesn’t have.

4. Hardware and OS

IE9 is intended to be run on a modern operating system in order to build on the latest hardware and operating system innovations.

5. Multi core

IE9 require a discrete graphics card and prefer multiple cores. Such things didn’t exist in XP.

Several users say it might be one of the marketing strategy by Microsoft to switch from  Windows XP users to Vista or Windows7, and may be Microsoft has totally stopped support to Windows XP and may not include XP in any of its future Software releases.

If this is true then for sure Microsoft will suffer big blow as Windows XP has more than 60% users in world using it when compared to 15% and 11% share on vista and Windows7.

What about other browser vendors, such as Opera, Mozilla and Google. Are these players abandoning XP? No! Here’s what Google Chrome developer Alex Russell had to say:

I recognize Opera and Mozilla and on Chrome we’re all doing hardware acceleration. And, all of us are doing it on XP. What you’re describing is a situation where people are less behind. The way is to not leave users behind.

Tech Tip: After all, upgrading to a different browser might be a whole lot easier (and cheaper) than upgrading the entire OS. After all, if Chrome, Firefox and Opera are all going to be able to do everything (or most) of that Internet Explorer 9 can do without having to upgrade the OS

Hi everyone. Today i was just going through windows new products and i found something very interesting. I started digging up in deep and collect many things which i am going to share here today.

Title would have already given hint what i am speaking about. But read ahead to know more.

Microsoft had already begun work on Windows 8 before Windows 7 was completed. During Windows 7 RTM Build 7700 Microsoft has almost gave a hint about its next big innovation towards Operating Systems.

On January 31, 2010 (which has since then been deleted) on an MSDN blog titled, “Whats in store for the next Windows?” It’s a great read from an obviously excited employee bursting at the seams to say SOMETHING about Windows 8 — or, as he referred to it as, “Windows.next”.

All these rumors came to end when Microsoft’s road-map leaked on web.

Note: Although Code Name “Windows 8? may suggest that Windows 8 will not be the final name, “Windows 7? was also a Code Name before it was declared the official name of the operating system.

More Windows 8 features haven’t been revealed yet. But still i found some features about it which i am sharing here.

1. DSFR(Distributed File System Replication) : a New Storage technology which has a faster File Access.
2. Cluster Support.
3. Dramatic performance improvements.
4. Hibernate/Resume Integration API, which will be used in Windows 8 replacing Windows Vista’s Xpress compression engine.
5. Patch Guard Improvement i.e. More Secure x64 Environment.
6. New user interface framework.
7. Improved Download Experience.
8. Improved Remote Desktop Client and Protocol.

From the past experience from Vista and Windows7, Microsoft is all set to make some more bigger this time. Coincidentally, many do believe that Windows 7 will be Microsoft’s last 32-bit OS. So could this mean we will see Windows 8 come in 64-bit and 128-bit flavors?
