As we discussed before Facebook is having some or other problems everyday and in news for almost two or three months. In our previous post also we explained you one of  the big mistake by Facebook.

At the same Facebook is coming up new features everyday, which is making it to stay on top the social network. This time around we got to know its cool feature “Facebook Questions”, that allows user to post questions and get answers from the entire Facebook Community.

“Facebook Questions,” as the beta, or test, product is called, lets members “tap into the collective knowledge” of other members, Facebook’s director of product management Blake Ross said.

Facebook Questions is a beta version and it is available to selected users only. These selected members will see an “Ask Question” button at the top of their homepage.

“Since we like to develop products carefully over time with your help, Facebook Questions is available to a limited number of people right now, and we’ll be developing it rapidly based on their feedback. We’re aiming to bring this product to all of you as quickly as we can.” Ross said in Facebook Blog.

Following are few notable features in Facebook Questions.

1. Quality answer for your Questions

Facebook has recently reached 500 million users mark, which covers 80% of the world’s population. Don’t you think at least a one in 500 million can answer to your question?

Of course this is a great move by Facebook. It may find few big rivals like Yahoo! Answers, Ask.com etc. Still it all depends on how it going to get changes.

2. Ask whom you like

Yes, this time Facebook has given a chance to its your user. They can fire a question to there friends group of to whole community. For instance, if you have a question about what type of camera you should buy, you could tag it with “Photography.” If you want to find the best bike routes in the area, you might tag it with “Cycling.”

The questions you ask will be shown to people who have expressed interest in the particular topics you tag, as well as to your friends and friends of friends.

3. Explore any Topic

Tagging themes also helps others benefit from the knowledge of everyone on Facebook. For instance, if you’ve always wanted to learn more about technology, social life or even how to train for a interview, Facebook Questions lets you see what others are asking about those subjects.

You can browse answers from people with deep knowledge on a topic or click “Follow” under any question to receive a notification each time someone submits a new answer.

4. Publish on wall

If a user posts a question, a small link referencing the question shows up in the “recent activity.” At the moment, Facebook Pages are not able to publish the questions onto their walls, a place that showcases all of the page’s activity and is a resource for users.

Being able to publish questions to the wall will let everyone to track a questions more easily and will feature questions in a familiar setting for easy interactions.

Tech Tip: The feature would be better if it was integrated with profile and page walls.

5. Like and Comment

Like any content on Facebook, users will expect to be able to comment on Questions and “like” them. Users are able to mark questions as either “helpful” or “unhelpful,” and these notes are tallied next to each question. But it isn’t the same as the familiar “like” functionality. Commenting is especially crucial, but is limited to answers of users your are friends with.

6. Type of Question

User can ask any kind of question, and they have the feature of adding a multiple answer kind of questions as well.

For an instance, if you to plan for  a trip and need to ask all your friends. Will you go and write on each and everyone’s wall and ask? How about having voting kind of question with Yes and No buttons? Isn’t it useful?

7. Analytics

Analytics will especially be important to brands using the feature on their pages. Brands will want to track and learn how to best engage their audience with Questions and most effectively use the feature. This would include tracking the number of people who responded to a poll question, how many followers a question received and similar metrics.

8. Post photos in Photo Questions

User can even ask a question by showing some photo. Isn’t a cool feature? Just imagine you want to ask a question to your friend on the photo they have added. You can use this feature right?

Ron Bowles, an online security consultant, used a code to scan Facebook profiles, collected data not hidden by users’ privacy settings, and compiled a list, which is now available as a downloadable file, containing the URL of every “searchable” Facebook user’s profile, their name and unique ID.

In this case, information that people have agreed to make public was collected by a single researcher and already exists in Google, Bing, other search engines, as well as on Facebook.

We all are very busy in getting to know how iPhone 4 is ruling the smart phone market now. Even we were busy in noting down all cool new features of iPhone 4 or iOS 4 comes with in its new release. But mean time after the release of iPhone 4, many bloggers wrote about its problems.

Today we are going to share few awesome features of Android that iPhone 4 and iOS 4 lacks.

There are many new smart phones in line to beat iPhone 4 when compared to the features of iPhone. As we all know, Android is one of the biggest competitor for iOS. Following are the features where Android gained advantage over iOS 4 and iPhone 4.

1. Flash Player

Many rivals of iPhone 4 took advantage over it by running flash contents. As we all know iPhone doesn’t support Flash contents due to many reasons. May be Steve Jobs is totally relaying on the HTML5 to compete with iPhone rivals.

But as of now the main feature iPhone lacks is Flash player, where as Android based phones support flash contents and are quite well in displaying it:).

2. Physical Menu keys

Apple wants to keep things clean and clear, so they placed only one big button on the phone. The primary function of this button was navigating the users to the home screen, now the same button is being used to switch between the applications.

When we compared iPhone with Android based phones, Android has few more physical buttons like dedicated back button and menu keys which makes it more user friendly and provides quicker navigation. It’s easy to hit a dedicated button than searching for the place in screen to hit!

3. Browser

Currently when we were looking at our list of missing features in iPhone 4, we got to know one more big fight between Apple’s iOS 4 and Google’s Android is the browser available by default.

Tech Tip: iPhone 4 uses its safari browser and Android uses Android 2.2 Froyo browser.
Ars SunSpider and V8 benchmarks showed the Nexus One blowing iPhone 4 out of the water with almost double the JavaScript performance.

However,  iPhone 4 has a slight lead when Flash was enabled on the Nexus One, and slightly behind when Flash was disabled.

4. Transfer Media

As we all know the only way for you to transfer your media files into Apple devices is through iTunes. Let me ask you a question,  Do you how much time iTunes will take to add files and sync it?

Whereas in case of Android, they can be easily used as USB devices for faster transfer of files and folders.

5. Notifications

This is one of the big not-to-like feature in iOS 4 and Android has one of the best modes of notifications one could ever want.

In Android, All notifications (like a new SMS, reply to a chat conversation, new e-mail, alerts etc.) are neatly organized in an expandable menu. So, whenever any of these notifications appear, they are quickly displayed for some time in a small strip that always stays at the top of the screen.

Consider that you’re chatting with a friend on Gtalk, while surfing the web. Whenever the person replies, you will see it in that small strip, without it disrupting whatever activity you are doing. To respond back, you will need to just swipe that strip down to open the proper notifications menu.

While the iOS 4 still follows the old method of pop-up notifications that will keep interrupting you. So, every reply to your chat conversation or a new SMS will make the iPhone bring a pop-up menu in focus, requiring you to take an action before you can get back to what you were doing. This is not good, especially now that they have got multi-tasking working, they could have done better with handling notifications. Not to mention the fact that the pop-up reveals content right in your face, for any prying eye to easily get a glimpse of.

6. Camera

Megapixels in smart phones seem to be increasingly competing with digital cameras. Apple is still not ready going for more pixel camera in their iPhone’s. As we noticed iPhone 4 has 5MPcamera while Android based phones having 8MP camera in it. This makes Android based phones more demanding in the smart phone market.

This point shows, still iPhone 4 is not a complete mobile a normal user should go for it!

7. Widgets

Apple has solved the problem of application icon clutter by introducing folders. May be a really good move! But if you’re going to arrange applications  in folders, then consider that one more click before you can see what you want, instead of having it placed directly on the home-screen.

Android makes good use of Widgets. With multiple home-screens, we can arrange an assortment of Widgets that we can be swiped across swiftly.

Isn’t it an advantage? You can place your favorite applications in home screen and just a click is enough to access it rather than going inside the folder every time and search for the applications and then access it!

8. LED notification light

The small LED notification light is a boon when you leave your phone on a desk for a long time. The iPhone screen will shut down after momentarily displaying a new notification. You wouldn’t know any new activity without turning it on to check manually. But the LED light on Android phones keep blinking, letting you know something new has occurred for you to see.

May be this is just a simple point, but it works a lot for busy people!

9. Voice Command

Voice commands may seem basic. However, not for iPhone users, who still can’t use default voice commands to make calls or bring up a contact info.

We can’t expect Google Voice application on iPhone 4, as Apple is not ready to collaborate with Google. But our strong feeling is Google voice could have enhanced iPhone’s functionality, offering users the ability to make calls while saving their precious time.

10. Display

The percentages of users who go for smart phone are the one who surf the Internet to the core. You can ask a question here, if they want to access web they can go for some normal phone which supports web, why smart phones?

But here the point is, smart phones will be having bigger screen and users won’t struggle to scroll down for every 10 lines. If you compare iPhone 4 screen with Android’s, Android’s will win the race. iPhone 4 comes with screen size of 3.5 inches as it is 4.3 inches in Android based phones. This obviously makes the difference in its resolutions as well.

We feel these are the areas which iPhone or iOS is still lacking and Android’s are making a big impact. Still there are few disadvantages in iPhone. If we mention about battery once again like all previous generation iPhones, iPhone 4 too does not have a battery that user can replace.

Ok then let me tell you more about IE9. We all Bloggers are mostly amazed by the Windows7 and most of them have switched from Windows XP to Windows7 and also from  Windows Vista to Windows7 as it had many problems.

When we tried IE9 preview and demos, It looked perfect and we totally went crazy about the features of IE9. But when we tried on Windows XP we just got to know Microsoft killed Windows XP with its IE9! A dialog box popped out stating

Windows Internet Explorer Platform Preview does not support any operating system earlier than Windows Vista SP2

What do you have to say about it? Microsoft clearly says no to nearly decade old operating system Windows XP! Now let us put in front the main reasons behind why IE9 doesn’t work in Windows XP. These are the 5 main reasons we found why IE9 doesn’t support Windows XP:

1. DirectX

IE9 uses the Direct2D feature of DirectX when accessing the graphics hardware to accelerate image creation and drawing. Direct2D was introduced in Windows 7, but then added to Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 R2. But not to Windows XP.

2. Security

Windows XP users have a fast, safe, reliable and private browser in Internet Explorer 8 that IE9 doesn’t provide for XP.

3. Graphics

Internet Explorer 9 requires the modern graphics and security underpinnings that have come since 2001, which XP doesn’t have.

4. Hardware and OS

IE9 is intended to be run on a modern operating system in order to build on the latest hardware and operating system innovations.

5. Multi core

IE9 require a discrete graphics card and prefer multiple cores. Such things didn’t exist in XP.

Several users say it might be one of the marketing strategy by Microsoft to switch from  Windows XP users to Vista or Windows7, and may be Microsoft has totally stopped support to Windows XP and may not include XP in any of its future Software releases.

If this is true then for sure Microsoft will suffer big blow as Windows XP has more than 60% users in world using it when compared to 15% and 11% share on vista and Windows7.

What about other browser vendors, such as Opera, Mozilla and Google. Are these players abandoning XP? No! Here’s what Google Chrome developer Alex Russell had to say:

I recognize Opera and Mozilla and on Chrome we’re all doing hardware acceleration. And, all of us are doing it on XP. What you’re describing is a situation where people are less behind. The way is to not leave users behind.

Tech Tip: After all, upgrading to a different browser might be a whole lot easier (and cheaper) than upgrading the entire OS. After all, if Chrome, Firefox and Opera are all going to be able to do everything (or most) of that Internet Explorer 9 can do without having to upgrade the OS

We have seen Google toolbar for Internet Explorer and Firefox from very long. But many Chrome users wanted Google to give a toolbar facility in it as well. But Google never spoke about the Toolbar release for Chrome. Here we found a mini-toolbar for Chrome as well.

This mini Google toolbar is a add-on for Chrome and is having very few options in it when compared with the number of options Internet Explorer or Firefox Toolbar. Mini Toolbar includes the following options in it,

Q. How to go to settings window from Chrome?

A. Chrome Settings -> Extensions -> select Add-on options

1. Horizontal or Vertical display:

You can customize the add-on to display the features in vertical or horizontal way. Go to the last icon i.e., Settings icon and then just select the setting as shown in the image below,

If you select the 4 Columns option then the Toolbar display will be like,

2. Show name of the icon or not?

You can even select the whether to display name of the icon when you hover on it or not! If you know all the icons of Google products then you may not like to see the display. This option will be selected as below,

3. Tab view or Window view:

The next cool feature it has is to display the contents in New Tab or New Window. If you select the New Window option it will popup the new chrome session to display the contents in it. Select this option as shown the image below,

4. Set Window Size:

If you select the New Window option to display the contents then you can even set the size for the popup window by doing as below,

5. Show Sub-menu or not?

Few features like Doc, Calendar etc are having sub-menu options to have more flexible usage of the tools. User has freedom to make it display the sub-menus or just the main option.

Toolbar lacks many most wanted tools like Page Rank and Bookmarking! Many bloggers and website owners are mainly crazy about the Page Rank option in Toolbar as it provides where they stand in web-world. Even many people likes bookmarking on Google Toolbar as they can access the Bookmark anytime and anywhere they like.

And this mini toolbar is developed by some 3rd party and not by Google. Mini-toolbar is having certain defects in it, as few buttons are still not working. When we looked in depth of the Toolbar we came to know that it is just a initial beta Version. So lets wait for the final release. But until then let us enjoy the Toolbar
