Google Chrome 13 Features “Kill URL Bar” Flag!

When Google entered Browser war, people thought it can’t go long way as there were many bugs. But then Google worked really hard on Chrome browser. Chrome 6 was noted to be game changing version of Chrome browser as it got lot of new features.

Chrome browser is very well known for its faster webpage rendering and compactness. Chrome was the first browser to provide wider webpage display area when compared Firefox or Internet Explorer.

Later Firefox 4 and Internet Explorer 9 followed this feature of Chrome.

Now here comes one more shocking feature by Google. This can blow your mind and lets you think what’s next?

Google has decided to kill URL or address bar in Chrome browser. In the latest canary and nightly build of Chrome browser, Chromium team has added a new flag which kills URL bar.

Compact navigation feature lets you “add a Hide the toolbar entry to the tabstrip’s context menu. Use this to toggle between always displaying the toolbar (default) and only opening it as a drop down box as needed.”

We can’t say Chrome is going to be URL bar-less browser. Google just thought about making it more flexible and now provides 30pixels more webpage vertical display.

Instead of showing a URL bar permanently, the user will have to click a tab to see a shortened version of the URL bar that is displayed with a hover effect, if you move the mouse pointer away from the field, the URL bar disappears.

Once you enable this flag, new tabstrip entry will be added i.e. “Hide the toolbar”. Clicking on this will shut the URL bar, moves the tool menu to tabstrip and introduces new back/forward buttons. Just click on the tab will show the reduced version of new address bar.

Negative Side of URL bar-less Chrome

Google is on mission about making all their products run similarly on all the PC and mobile devices like Tablets. But this has got couple of negative side or disadvantages.

  1. Killing the URL bar approach may be pointless for large desktop screens.
  2. Killing URL bar also Killed Chrome Extensions like Shareaholic, Chrome SEO and more

This feature will be very useful for mobile devices but not for Desktop version. It may get added in Chrome 13 or in later version of Chrome. This may be good competitor for Firefox’s Awesomebar which is now old Chrome’s URL bar icon biggrin Google Chrome 13 Features “Kill URL Bar” Flag!

Firefox 4 Twitter Party image Taste the next version Firefox 4.2 Alpha is here!

Well, finally Firefox 4 is here! Hope you all downloaded the latest browser by Mozilla which seems to be best ever browser made by them. Do you agree with me?

Many of you know that Firefox 4 download count on day 1 was almost twice the count of IE9’s day 1 downloads which clearly says Firefox is back on browsers war and already giving a tough competition to Internet explorer 9.

We know that is old news now and every one of you would have come know about it! But, at the time of writing this article Firefox 4.0 was downloaded more than 22 million times and no signs of slowing down   browser’s momentum(at least for now!).

Many of you would have thought after Fx4 Mozilla will start with Firefox 5. But Mozilla has some other release plan in between them!

Discussion held on March 18, 2011, Mozilla’s Christian Legnitto said,

There has been some discussion and uneasiness about the point release plan between Firefox 4 and Firefox 5. Yes, there will be at least one Firefox 4.x release.

Well Mozilla has already reserved 16 weeks for releasing Firefox 5. Now why Firefox 4.x release? This version mainly includes the fixes for bugs found during Firefox 4 release.

From now on to reduce version confusion and be explicitly clear the updates Firefox development will be referred to by codenames. Additionally, the update order maps to codename alphabetical order so you can easily see which comes first just by looking at the codename.

There will be mainly two updates between Firefox 4 and Firefox 5. These are names as Anteater and Macaw.

Well just three days after the release of Firefox 4, Mozilla has already released the next version of Firefox in nightly builds. This version is named as Firefox 4.2.

As said before, “x” has been replaced by 2 in Firefox 4.x!

But maybe there will be another preceding version 4.0.x before Firefox 4.2 which is codenamed as Anteater!

As far now, it appears that only after it will deliver Firefox 4.0.x and Firefox 4.2, Mozilla will move forward and produce Firefox 5.0.

Early adopters can download Alpha version of Firefox 4.2 here. But be careful as this version may have many security glitches and may bite you icon razz Taste the next version Firefox 4.2 Alpha is here!

During the latest discussion about Firefox 4, one of the member of FF 4 development team Damon said,

Looking at the hardblocker bug list and not counting blocklist bugs, we have 22 bugs without patches (out of 51 open) that remain to be fixed to get to RC.

This is it.  It’s time to do the final push to get Firefox 4 to release candidate.

Time to show fortitude.  We’ve done it before, and we’ll do it again.  Let’s finish these last few bugs and aim to finish RC by Feb 25th.

Firefox 4 Beta 11 By Early Next Week, Beta 12 Confirmed!

firefox 41 Firefox 4 Beta 11 By Early Next Week, Beta 12 Confirmed!Mozilla is getting ready to put an end to its beta channel for Firefox 4.0 and working really hard towards it. We have been covering all the latest buzz happening in and around Firefox browser from long time.

Mozilla just released Firefox 4.0 Beta 10 just few days before. As said before, beta 11 was planned to be out in market by this week. But due to an issue that was found when building on Windows package causing some delay.

Well Beta 11 has been tagged and is spinning (build, QA validation) now. And it will be out by early next week.

firefox 4 beat 12 pre release image Firefox 4 Beta 11 By Early Next Week, Beta 12 Confirmed!

Few days back Mozilla team was planning to have a Beta 12 to fix some bugs which could not be fixed before Beta 11 release. And today we got a confirmation that Mozilla will be extending its beta branch to Beta 12.

During product planning meeting Mozilla team said,

B12 has a small enough list of bugs that it’s plausible it will be the last beta, though we’re not locking that up, since some of the plugin work needs to crystallize before we can assess timing risk.

So this confirms we will be getting one more beta before Mozilla team move towards first release candidate. We may expect Beta 12 before mid of February. Minified version of Firefox 4 has already moved to Beta 12!

As for now, it seems like Firefox 4 first RC and final release will be delayed for couple of weeks. Firefox is really loosing some fair amount of users to its rival browsers as they keep delaying Firefox 4.0 release.

Hope Firefox soon comes back into browsers war strongly! What you guys say? icon smile Firefox 4 Beta 11 By Early Next Week, Beta 12 Confirmed!
