Last week Mozilla had announced Firefox 4 Beta 11 would be released by early this week. Even we were waiting for the same! But as usual Mozilla never kept its promise and delayed it a bit!

Firefox 4 Beta 11 By Tomorrow

Yes, finally we got a release date of beta 11 which will be released by tomorrow morning.

Mozilla’s Christian Legnitto said,

I’m both breaking a promise and keeping one from my last email. This is the second status email, so I broke the whole “one a day” bit.

QA has signed off on Firefox 4 beta 11. They intend to push it to mirrors tonight / tomorrow morning PST and release to the beta audience tomorrow, 2011-02-08.

But Christian also said it’ll take a time for all its beta users to get automated update for beta 11. The release mechanics generally follow these steps:

1. Release to mirrors
2. Wait for sufficient mirror uptake for update testing
3. Test the updates on the “release test” channel to make sure the bits on the mirrors are OK!
4. Wait for sufficient mirror uptake for release to the beta audience
5. Push web pages live
6. Test the updates on the “beta” channel, get QA sign off on them
7. Update download links on mozilla.com
8. Announce to the world

Users won’t get automated updates until step 6 and won’t be able to download the new build from mozilla.com until step 7. So don’t expect to wake up in the morning to “Firefox 4 beta 11 has been released” news articles.

Maybe Beta 13!

While speaking about current happenings of beta 12 Christian said they have not yet planned about beta 12 release date. But the team is trying hard to get all beta hardblockers done by this Friday which would put them in position to start building beta 12 from next week!

In the end, he also pointed,

We still reserve the right to have another beta if needed, but are driving to have beta 12 be the last. Again, highly dependent on remaining work, new items found during beta 11, etc!

Well the update is in front of you guys. Firefox 4 beta 11 will be by tomorrow morning. And again Mozilla hints about having on more beta before they move towards building first Release Candidate of Firefox 4.

After all this, we get one strong question “Will Firefox get back to browsers war?”

Well here we got our first news from our browser war! Mozilla and Google are back with browser stories. Here we go with what’s new from Mozilla and Google,

Firefox 4 Beta 9

After a very long vacations Mozilla team is back to their work and announced their next beta launching date. Firefox 4 beta 9 will be out by next weekend i.e. on January 13.

Following the list of bugs that are blocking Firefox 4 as of today,

• Firefox 4.0 Beta 9
  • blocking: 136
  • fixed: 83
  • open: 53

• Firefox 4.0 RC
  • blocking: 1427
  • fixed: 1170
  • open: 257

• Firefox 4.0 final
  • blocking: 1315
  • fixed: 1124
  • open: 191

As you can see Firefox development team is left with 53 bugs and they are all set to release Beta 9. They are planned to code freeze beta 9 by this Friday, 2011-01-07. Branch and build on Monday, 2011-01-10. And final release of beta 9 to audience on Thursday, 2011-01-13.

As you all know Mozilla team is way behind Firefox 4 release. Last beta of Firefox was released on December 21. Beta 8 was more than 4 weeks late, continuing a history of delays of the Firefox 4 beta phase. Still beta 10 is left before first RC of Firefox 4.

We may expect first RC by end of first quarter of 2011. And also to make room for Firefox 4, Mozilla team has decided to stop shipping Firefox 3.6 as soon as possible! This will surely cost them as they started loosing market share to Google Chrome.

Update: Firefox 4 Beta 9 Delayed; Now Between January 14-18!

Google Chrome 9 Beta

Google today updated their Chrome 9 beta. As planned, Google has stick to their strategy and kept releasing new version of Chrome once in every six weeks.

The major updates of Chrome 9 beta which was released on December 16 was Sandboxed Flash Player, Chrome Instant and WebGL was now enabled by default.

Build 9.0.597.42 is nothing more than a minor update to Chrome 9.0, an aspect visible from the small version number increase from the last Beta namely 9.0.597.19.

Well the Chrome has become one of the major player in browser war as they had a great 2010! According to Net Applications, Chrome finished 2010 extremely close to the 10% usage share milestone. More importantly, statistics indicate that while Firefox is all but stagnating, and with Internet Explorer continuing to lose users, Chrome is growing at an accelerated pace.

IE9 First RC by January End!

Microsoft is reportedly gearing up to release the Release Candidate of Internet Explorer 9 by the end of January 2011.

The Redmond company has yet to confirm or deny third-party reports that claim to already have the IE9 RC availability deadline, or to comment in any way on the matter at hand.

Last week, we posted an article on the “9 Must-Do’s of Professional Blogging”. Well, we can’t just talk about what to do, without talking about what Not to do, can we? So here it is “9 Do-Not’s of Professional Blogging” =D

1) Don’t Steal

The actual word is “plagiarize”. This is something we have to emphasize on. Stealing of content is a definite No-No! If you did your research, and obtained a part of your content from elsewhere, make sure you give credit accordingly.

Tech tip: when you use images from Flickr or other sites give credit just below the image as we give in < credit > tag

2) Don’t Spam

If you’re going to send your readers updates on your blog via their emails/selected medium, make sure that they are expecting it. (On a side note, make sure you make it easy for them to unsubscribe too.)

Sometimes when your users comment on the post, check are they provided proper mail ID with gmail, yahoo or other well known mail ID providers. Some one can simply comment with abc@abc.com. These are spams. Be alert and move them to spam list as soon as possible

Tech Tip: have a look at the commenter’s blog as well. They may add non-existing  url’s.

3) Don’t Neglect your Readers

If you don’t want to engage, Don’t. Engaging your audience takes time and effort. If you’re not going to be there, don’t encourage your readers to leave comments that you don’t intend to reply to.

If you are getting comments on your post, its better to reply to that on same day or with-in 2 days. This makes your readers feel that you are genuine author who respects the readers.

4) Don’t Confuse your Readers

Your blog has a theme. All blogs do. And the reason readers come to your blog is because they are interested in what you have to say regarding the said theme. Make sure your message is relevant to that theme. Don’t confuse your readers by giving them content which they didn’t expect. (Likewise with misleading titles)

5) Don’t be Mean

No matter how strongly you feel against something/someone, don’t vent your anger or displeasure on your blog. Understand that if your blog is a professional one, it is a part of the company’s or the brand’s image. If you have an opinion, it’s okay to voice it out and stay opinionated. But make sure you don’t come across as intentionally hurtful.

Tech Tip: DO NOT give link to other blog in negative way! Better leave a comment in professional way by asking “if i am correct me” Makes good sense right?

6) Don’t do “Me Too” posts (Not too Often)

People come to your blog because you hold content that can’t be obtained anywhere else. If most of your posts are complementing other posts and just agreeing with them, without the slightest hint of having a unique perspective, then you’re not very interesting.

Tech Tip: Explore about the topic before posting!! Make unique post and get visitors!

7) Don’t be a Hypocrite

Practice what you preach. Or at least, really try to. Showing people that you walk the talk can often be the most convincing way to prove your point.

Don’t “Over-sell” your Blog

Okay, so you have written a post that you feel good about. You post it. Then what? You advertise it via the mediums available to you (E.g. on Twitter and on Facebook.) So far so good. But when your stream starts showing the same post over and over again, it starts to annoy. Try to moderate your “selling”.

9) Don’t include a background tune

Have you ever visited a blog where a tune starts playing in the background? I have, and it catches me off-guard. My ears don’t expect to be invaded by pleasant tunes all the time! Also, the songs that one person enjoys may not appeal to others. It can really deter your readers from spending more time on your blog.

Tech Tip: Don’t add annoying graphics or songs that may end up irritating your readers when they visit! There may not be a next time~

3. Make constructive and beneficial blogs

In order to have an interesting blogs, try not to use some highly technical and highfalutin words. After all it is not a science debate to write so stick on short words and small blogs. Avoid writing Lengthy articles without pictures.

5. Make it interactive

As much as possible and up to your capacity try to make your blog interactive. You can do this by placing some video clips or audio clips in your blog.

You can also keep a place in your blog for comments or reviews or some feedbacks.In this way, you can get some impressions or reactions of other people.

Indeed, blogs are not created just for the mere fun of it. It also has its own purpose in the world of the Internet.
