Finally Microsoft ready to halt the world’s most popular operating system Windows XP. This time Microsoft is not joking and very serious about the move. Microsoft has officially announced that, Windows XP OEM and retails sales will be ended on October 22, 2010.

Following are the final words about the Windows XP sales by Microsoft,

Millions of Windows XP users are fans of the operating system, and many depend on Windows XP to run earlier applications and hardware that is not compatible with Windows 7. Windows 7 is designed to be compatible with the most popular hardware and software products you use every day and even though we are ending the sale of Windows XP on October 22, 2010.

The future is here, and it’s better than ever with Windows 7, the latest Microsoft operating system. Windows 7 has proven benefits over earlier versions of Windows. It combines the latest in reliability, security, and responsiveness with the familiarity and compatibility of Windows XP, so you’ll feel right at home, right away.

If you still want a retail or OEM version of Windows XP, you may have to get that Operating system rather soon, as Microsoft said that it will remove the operating system from retail on October 22. By then, no wonder that the operating system will have been on sale for a record 9 years and 2 months – or a total of 104 months (the software was launched in August 2001.)

If you are still running the Windows XP on your system, Microsoft says that it will provide support until April 8, 2014, provided you run the latest service pack SP3 or any future releases and keep the software up to date as far as those updates are available.

Windows XP was originally supposed to be removed in late 2007, but due to failure of Windows Vista in the market, Microsoft decided to continue XP sales. This time , Microsoft is serious that October 22 will be the final date.

Tech Tip: Final date for Windows Vista OEM sales is also April 2014.

Well we all know that, Windows 7 is now installed on more than 80% of netbooks, which means there is no need for XP anymore. Microsoft has already  stopped supporting Windows XP with  its new product  Internet Explorer 9. But still Windows XP holds most popular operating system in world and has more than 55% market share(according to StatCounter).

    I actually prefer XP over Vista and 7. I've even had clients that want 7 removed and XP installed on their newer systems.

    I am not a Windows XP or Vista fan.I think it is a good step of Microsoft, Windows 7 is much better.

    This marks an end of the Best OS of its time. But to be very honest, windows XP was benefited because of windows Vista's incompetence. But Windows 7 has changed all that and now its right time to say good by to Windows XP.

    Nothing will ever beat windows XP,problem with windows 7, it does'nt regonize most hardware in your pc, so your force to get new hardware so you can use window 7, can get costly.so think about it, is it worth it.

    I am an XP user, since I've started using computers, and I have to say, that, after 9 years of existence, it's now time to be put aside. Currently I use 7, and I'm totally covered. Furthermore, in my opinion, this announcement doesn't say much, because for the most of people, windows XP were forgotten since Vista and 7 came out. As the post says, most computer on retail have Vista and 7 installed. If you were going to SEARCH, you would find XP. Hail 7, the new technology..! :P

    I still think Windows XP is the best O.S. developed by microsoft, Windows Vista and Windows 7 are almost the same and both sucks. Hopenext windows version makes more a copy of windows xp.

    I bought my laptop at 2006 and you know several hardware doesn't work on win 7 :( and the bad is i must upgrade several software which only supported win XP :( so that's why is still using XP

    Gotta agree with Eric here. Anyone who says "Vista and Win7 suck" have obviously never used either one. Vista started off on the wrong foot admittedly, but cleaned up it's act very fast and turned into a decent O.S., as anyone who ever actually USED it knows. While 7 is absolutely great. I am the "go to" guy in my family/friends when it comes to computers and I have come to dread seeing xp in any flavor. Old,slow,full of roundabout ways to do things….. I dont see how anyone can defend it to tell you the truth. Yes you may need some hardware upgrades to run Win7….. but come on people, how much does even a brand new Win7 capable machine cost? If you are wedded to your xp that much…….. Anyway, I like windows 95 when I used that too, but this IS the 21st century now and has been for awhile. Come join us!
