WWW_logo_by_Robert_Cailliau

It was 19 years ago when the idea/project of World Wide Web, abbreviated as WWW and commonly known as the Web, is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the Internet was started.

Aug 07 1991, Tim Berners-Lee posted a short summary of the World Wide Web (WWW) project in a newsgroup, which marked the birth date of the publicly available WWW on the Internet.

Tim-berners-lee

Sir Timothy John “Tim” Berners-Lee, (born 8 June 1955, also known as “TBL“), is a British engineer and computer scientist and MIT professor credited with inventing the World Wide Web, making the first proposal for it in March 1989.

We suggest: Know more about Sir Tim Berners-lee from wiki.

On Jul 26 1991, it was Mark Langston Psychology Dept. Memphis State University, who asked for a help with these words,

Does anyone out there have any experience writing interpreters for GUIDE ver 2.0 for the Macintosh?  Specifically, interpreters that will collect data?  If so, please reply!

For this on Aug 7 1991, 12:31 am, Sir Tim Berners-Lee replied with the idea of WWW, which changed the world like anything. It was all started with this bit of conversation which made a big impact, WWW was evolved. 🙂

We Suggest: Have a look at series of conversation between Sir Tim Berners-Lee and others about WWW here.

At the time of the posting, the Internet as estimated to have a population of about 36 million people, which represented about 0.9% of the world’s population, according to Internet World Stats. According to the BBC, there were about 603,000 websites available at the time.

Internet Growth

By the end of 2000, there were 304 million people and 25.7 million websites online. Today, it is estimated that 1.96 billion people are accessing the Internet and almost 206 million websites are available, if we believe the numbers posted by Netcraft.

Lets say together “Happy Birthday WWW” 🙂 Share your thoughts on the Birthday web WWW 🙂
