How to use different Themes for WordPress posts or pages

How to use different Themes for WordPress posts or pages

You might think that why can’t my blog be a mixture of many themes wherein i can use different themes for different pages or posts of my blog?? .

Well , you are thinking wright :) :) , because recently a plugin by name Themeperpost has been developed, which  gives you an option of using different themes in different posts or pages of your blog. It uses Custom Field option from which you can yourself assign a theme for different posts and pages.

Why this plugin :

A many of readers will ask (including you ;) ) will ask this question “Why this plugin “. This is my answer -

  • “If you want to be simple then be , but if you want to be creative then do some creative “, isn’t this a creative plugin wherein you can have your own customized theme for different pages or posts?? [Answer this by commenting :announce: ] .
  • If you have a multiauthor blog like ShoutMeLoud , then several authors would like to see their posts in their own customized colors , no problem you can do this using Themeperpost WordPress Plugin :) .
  • “Ten mugs of water is one bucket of water” , similarly ten colorful mugs of water is an attractive and wonderful bucket of water :) :) [Think Positively :yes: ]

How to use it :

  1. Firstly upload the new wordpress theme which you want to use for posts or pages. If the theme is already uploaded then note down its name properly , as we will be using it later.
  2. Now go to the post or page in edit mode and add a custom new field by name “themeperpost” and in the place of value add the Theme name which you had uploaded newly or noted it ;) Custom Field Option
  3. Here you are , now you can see that particular post or page using the theme which you have entered in the custom field’s value section :) :)

Demo & Download

Demo1->Demo2->Demo3 : These links are of the same blog but they are using different themes.

Download Themeperpost WordPress Plugin.

What do you think , what more can be included in this plugin??? . Be frank , as your comment will be taken into comsideration to update this plugin with some more customizations :) :) :) :)

  3. OMGosh this is awesome!

    Question for you though – how do you know the name of the Theme to enter into the box? For example if the Theme name has spaces in the name e.g. “Squeeze Theme” do I enter that into the custom field box with the space? I only see “carpet” in the above example, hence my question on names with multiple words.

    And do you activate the theme or just have it as a theme option on your dashboard?

    Firstly welcome to Tech18 Michelle :) :)
    let me answer your questions
    1.Ans: The theme name is the name that comes in the theme options , it can include spaces and versions also
    For Eg : If the Theme name is “WP Premium 2.0″
    then you must enter it as “WP Premium 2.0″ only in the custom field [Without quotes ;) ]

    2.Ans NO need to activate the theme , just upload it completely so that it appears in the theme options and meanwhile check once whether its working by previewing the theme :) :) :)

    2)Replace call to get_sidebar() with a call to themeperpost_get_sidebar()
    3)Replace call to get_footer() with a call to themeperpost_get_footer()

  38. For everyone using WordPress as a CMS, THEMEPERPOST is a FANTASTIC plugin. The most common challenge in building a web site with WordPress is that the opening page needs a large header but all subsequent pages need a smaller header. I use theme designer software (Artisteer), so now I can easily design and upload two related themes for a single site. Thanks for a great plugin!

    [Reply]

    chris Reply:

    Hi Dennis/Sunil
    Ive installed the themeperpost plug in and Ive created an artisteer alternative to the twenty10 theme (just as a test) and the artisteer theme has been loaded into my theme directory for the wp site. When I switch to the page with the custom field entry calling the artisteer theme I get the artisteer theme showing but its very long way away from the artisteer theme I have actually designed- correct background but header has no content and there are error messages in the sidebars etc. What might I be doing wrong as I want to do exactly the same solution as you (multiple artisteer themes per site)? Its too good to miss this plug in – if only i could make it work for me
    Thanks and Rgds Chris

    [Reply]

    Dennis Rivers Reply:

    Hi Chris,

    I imagine that you may be having version compatibility conflicts, because I too had an instance in which my alternate theme looked strange.

    Here is what I suggest to get your themeperpost working:

    1. Upgrade your WordPress to the latest version available.

    2. Go to the Artisteer.com web site and download/install the very latest release. (They just released a new WP 3.0 version. Also, check in with Artisteer a least once a month to download and install the latest bug-fix release.)

    3. Call up your alternate theme in the new Artisteer and save it with a slightly different name. That will force it to be written in the latest format.

    4. Go to WordPress and install the renamed theme. (leave it installed but unactivated) Then go to your test page and enter the name of the updated theme in your themeperpost custom field.

    Please let me know if this works to solve the problem.

    All the best, Dennis
