Microsoft is getting ready to release the first beta version of Internet Explorer 9. September 15, 2010 will be the day where we may see some ultimate changes in web browser war. Or even Internet Explorer may again fail as well. Well the final review is still awaiting.

Development of IE9 began shortly after IE8 had been released. Microsoft began taking features suggestions through Microsoft Connect soon after IE8 was released. On March 16, 2010 Microsoft released first platform preview version of IE9.

Till now Microsoft has released 4 platform previews to help developers and users have a look at the upcoming features in IE9. But recently we saw Google Chrome has update lot many features and saw rapid growth in its market share. Firefox 4 beta 5 tried its best to impress users but found guilty for copying Chrome like features.

Keeping all these things in mind, we started noting down the top 9 ultimate features which can impress its users.

#1. Browsing Window

Internet explorer previous versions used to occupy more window area for its menu, bookmarks and many other things. The browsing window was very small and users had to scroll up and down every time. We expect IE9  comes with a clean browser like Chrome (Firefox has already achieved).

#2. Reduced Menu

If you start noting how many menu elements Internet explorer is having, it may cross some 25+. IE always proved to be very complicated browser with many unwanted features embedded in it. Hope IE9 comes with reduced and easy to use menu.

In Google Chrome 6, we saw many shortcuts on the browser screen. Adding important shortcuts for history, bookmarks and etc may attract users as Google Chrome 6 did.

#4. HTML 5 Support

Recently we found that Google Chrome scored top on HTML 5 test and IE 9 showed very poor performance. In PP4, many of the HTML 5 elements are missing which chrome and Firefox have included. Hope IE9 will support all HTML 5 elements and will be web developer friendly browser.

#5. Integrated GPU Acceleration

Hardware (GPU) acceleration appears to be activated by default now in Firefox 4 Beta 5. Google confirmed that Chrome 7 majorly about GPU Acceleration update. If Microsoft integrates GPU Acceleration by default in IE9, we can see high graphical performance and subtle speed increase in graphics-heavy websites. Better GPU Acceleration can steal lot more users towards IE9.

#6. Better CSS Support

Developers were having very tough time while developing a website which can perform well in all the versions of Internet Explorer. But lines of code used to grow high and high while previewing the website on all versions after IE6. With the support of CSS3 and older CSS, hope IE9 reduces the work of web developers.

The main advantage for Google Chromium project and Mozilla’s Firefox is, both are open source project. Using this open source code, software programmers can help Chromium / Firefox team in noting down the bugs and helping in developing best browser.

Many browsers like Hidden Reflex’s Epic Browser used Mozilla source code and Flock is using Chromium 7 code. Feedback from these browsers are helping Google and Mozilla to have error-less browser.

#8. 100/100 Acid3 Test

• The first IE9 Platform Preview featured support for CSS3 and SVG, a new JScript engine called Chakra, and a scored 55/100 on the Acid3 test, up from 20/100 for IE8.
• On May 5, 2010, the second IE9 Platform Preview was released, which featured a score of 68/100 on the Acid3 test and faster performance on the WebKit SunSpider JavaScript benchmark than the first IE9 Platform Preview.
• On June 23, 2010, the third IE9 Platform Preview was released, which featured a score of 83/100 on the Acid3 test and a faster JScript engine than the second IE9 Platform Preview. The third IE9 Platform Preview also includes support for HTML5 audio, video, and canvas tags, and WOFF.
• On August 4, 2010, the fourth IE9 Platform Preview was released, which features a score of 95/100 on the Acid3 test and a faster JScript engine than the third IE9 Platform Preview.

Acid3 is a test page from the Web Standards Project that checks how well a web browser follows certain selected elements from web standards, especially relating to the Document Object Model (DOM) and JavaScript. Currently Firefox is scoring 97/100 in acid3 test and Chrome 6 is already on 100/100!!

Hope IE9 achieves 100/100 to say its a perfect browser for upcoming changes in browsing world!

#9. Windows XP Supportable

Last by not least! All Windows XP users are waiting for when Microsoft will say “IE9 is supportable on Windows XP”. If IE9 works on Windows XP machines then for sure it will be a big hit as market share of Windows XP users are still on top.

Ok then let me tell you more about IE9. We all Bloggers are mostly amazed by the Windows7 and most of them have switched from Windows XP to Windows7 and also from  Windows Vista to Windows7 as it had many problems.

When we tried IE9 preview and demos, It looked perfect and we totally went crazy about the features of IE9. But when we tried on Windows XP we just got to know Microsoft killed Windows XP with its IE9! A dialog box popped out stating

Windows Internet Explorer Platform Preview does not support any operating system earlier than Windows Vista SP2

What do you have to say about it? Microsoft clearly says no to nearly decade old operating system Windows XP! Now let us put in front the main reasons behind why IE9 doesn’t work in Windows XP. These are the 5 main reasons we found why IE9 doesn’t support Windows XP:

1. DirectX

IE9 uses the Direct2D feature of DirectX when accessing the graphics hardware to accelerate image creation and drawing. Direct2D was introduced in Windows 7, but then added to Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 R2. But not to Windows XP.

2. Security

Windows XP users have a fast, safe, reliable and private browser in Internet Explorer 8 that IE9 doesn’t provide for XP.

3. Graphics

Internet Explorer 9 requires the modern graphics and security underpinnings that have come since 2001, which XP doesn’t have.

4. Hardware and OS

IE9 is intended to be run on a modern operating system in order to build on the latest hardware and operating system innovations.

5. Multi core

IE9 require a discrete graphics card and prefer multiple cores. Such things didn’t exist in XP.

Several users say it might be one of the marketing strategy by Microsoft to switch from  Windows XP users to Vista or Windows7, and may be Microsoft has totally stopped support to Windows XP and may not include XP in any of its future Software releases.

If this is true then for sure Microsoft will suffer big blow as Windows XP has more than 60% users in world using it when compared to 15% and 11% share on vista and Windows7.

What about other browser vendors, such as Opera, Mozilla and Google. Are these players abandoning XP? No! Here’s what Google Chrome developer Alex Russell had to say:

I recognize Opera and Mozilla and on Chrome we’re all doing hardware acceleration. And, all of us are doing it on XP. What you’re describing is a situation where people are less behind. The way is to not leave users behind.

Tech Tip: After all, upgrading to a different browser might be a whole lot easier (and cheaper) than upgrading the entire OS. After all, if Chrome, Firefox and Opera are all going to be able to do everything (or most) of that Internet Explorer 9 can do without having to upgrade the OS

In August 2009, Facebook announced its new lighter version “Facebook Lite” which was optimized for users on slower or intermittent Internet connections. Facebook Lite offered fewer services, excluded most third-party applications and required less bandwidth. Very fast and easy to browse version.

But lite version couldn’t survive for long time. Although many users felt that lite version was very useful because whenever Facebook normal version experienced the downtime users had an another option to shift and connect to their buddies. On 20 April 2010 that support for the “Lite” service had ended and that users were redirected back to the normal, full content, Facebook website. The service was only operational eight months.

When we started learning  HTML – core language of WWW(World Wide Web), We might have thought what all junks they have written here! As days went , many made it as their main-stream and started digging more about it. And even we went through new technologies like jQuery, Joomla and many more. But still there are many complexities in writing a single normal HTML page! Just to include a header we had to write some 15 or odd lines. But recently W3C introduced an update to this technology. A enhancement of HTML 4.01 to 5, which many people said “lines reduced and creativity increased”.

So lets get to know more about HTML5 by answering four easy questions which each and every users asks us :

1. What is HTML5?

   The very first question which comes into your mind when you heard about it . HTML 5 is a new version of HTML / XHTML which specifically focuses on the wants and needs of web app developers. W3C has implemented many new features to reduce your coding time.

2. Why HTML5?

   There are many new features are included in HTML5. Just take a tour of it here,

   • Video :  Before when we wanted to embed and play a video on our site we had to embed it by writing lengthy code as below:

You can play 2 videos next to next as explained before, but difference is you can play the reflection of 1st video.

   • Movable Contents: HTML5 says drag and drop whatever you like, customize your page as you like. Few months back Google implemented drag and drop feature for file attachments with Gmail. Few people didn’t close their mouth when they saw this feature in Gmail. Now its all easy for any web developer to add this feature! Previously when I used this drag and drop feature in one of my website I used jQuery, which made to include many JavaScript’s and obviously page took lot of time to load!! Now its all easy with HTML5. Have look a Drag and Drop feature here. And see how it can be used with Text here.
     

     Advantage: Make your visitors happy with the page how they like.

   • Document structure: When it comes to designing structure for your page, HTML5 has made lot of changes and it is very easy. Now a small kid code its own page with the HTML5 changes. Many new tags like, <header></header> <nav></nav> <article></article> <footer></footer> are added in HTML5.You can have a look at new tags introduced in HTML5 and also few tags which are not supported by HTML5 . Now very less time  it will take you to design single page .

Few days back I just got one mail about Google Office. Seeing that i was shocked!! One guy got relocated to new place and it was totally unknown for him. Google provided accommodation for 1month. By seeing the facilities guy decided to stay for one more month! How’s that?
