20 Amazing Features of Internet Explorer 9

IE9 first beta

Internet Explorer 9 is finally here! Guess what, this time Microsoft has delivered it perfectly without any problems. Just on right time IE9 got released and users are playing around the all new UI from Microsoft.

If we would like to describe IE9 is 3 words it will be Fast, Smooth and Mind Blowing! Before the first beta Microsoft had released 4 platform previews to make its users and developers to have a look at its depth features. Through these test drives IE9 got many users attracting towards it before the beta release.

Similar to Google, even Microsoft used some strategy by giving away the beta to top developers so that they start promoting it before the public release. That was good for some who had got chance to feel about IE9.

Lets cut this story here and start speaking about amazing IE9 and its features.

IE9 before installation

Have a look at what Microsoft IE9 is saying in screenshot! Yes! IE9 offers fast browsing like Chrome and Firefox. Clean and secure as well.

Even we do accept not having status bar activated in IE9 make you go crazy. If you click on any link, for sometime a ring will be revolving on its tab and then it will stop before page being loaded. Many menu features has been embedded in Command Bar and it can be activated just by right click on top-right corner.

IE9 reduced menu

Compared to its previous versions of Internet Explorer’s, IE9 has got drastic changes in menu style. Menu structure has been reduced totally. Only few options are visible on the screen through Tools and favorite button on top-right corner. Rest has to enabled though command bar and pressing CTRL once.

Rather than using a mouse to select text and move around within a webpage, you can use standard navigation keys on your keyboard—Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, and the arrow keys. This feature is called Caret Browsing and is named after the caret—or cursor—that appears when you edit a document.

IE9 website filter

SmartScreen filter feature is used to check the browsing website for any threats. Is any threats are found then the report will be sent to MS and IE9 will warn user to stop opening the site.

      • Icechen1

Opps, typed restarting twice. My bad. I'm used to making my pc sleep/hibernate all the time and the concept of restarting is annoying to me. Takes the computer forever to boot up.

At last a good and reliable browser from Microsoft. … :)

  • Don

Does everyone on this site work for MS?

Ya it some nice features but there are just as many annoying things.

Menu Bar. Turned off by default. So I can just go to toolbars and turn it on. Nope. Go to options and turn it on. Nope. You have to do a group policy change or a register hack just to turn the bloody menu on. WTF is with that. (yes I know I can turn it on `temporarily` but that is completly useless).

Saving favorites. So I`m doing some research and want to save a whole bunch of different web sites to the new folder I just created for this purpose. Guess what, IE doesn`t `remember` the last folder I used for saving favorites so I I have to navigate to my new folder each and every time. How come I`m not hearing anything on this page about stuff like that. In all your testing didn`t any of you try saving favorites.

MS has this very annoying habit of making changes to their software because they `know`what the user wants but don`t give the user anyway of changing these things back. Or if there is a way of changing it it is buried so far down that the average user never finds it.

Before anyone flames me, I do like a lot of the thing they have done. But some of the most simpliest changes can have a huge impact on the Users experience and MS just doesn`t seem to care about these `little`things.

  • Kishore Mylavarapu

Nice list of features.Hope it will grab huge market share.

  • http://www.thalasso-line.com Ivan

Feature number 20 is going to be very useful for phishers

  • Hbgibson

How do I get back IE 8?  9 is so frustrating—I don’t have time to research how to do all the things that are different.
